"What It Takes" follows 4 world-class triathletes around for a year, as they prepare for the Ironman world championships in Kona, Hawaii. The film shows life on the inside with these top pros:
Peter Reid is a 3-time world champion who has established himself as one of the preeminent contenders in men's long-course triathlon. He has titles in Kona, Lanzarote, Australia, Canada, and Austria. Peter is a member of Tri-Dubai.
Heather Fuhr has finished in the top 10 of Ironman Hawaii in 8 of the last 9 years, and won the race in 1997. She has also won races in Lake Placid, California, Europe, Switzerland, Brazil, and Japan. Heather is a member of Tri-Dubai.
Luke Bell is a rising young star who finished fifth in the 2003 Ironman championships and has recorded strong performances at a series of races in the last two years. The 25-year-old Bell is widely regarded as the sports next "breakout" star.
Lori Bowden is a 2-time world champion who has won titles in Kona, Australia, Austria, and Canada. She is one of the best known women in the sport and was the first to break the 3-hour barrier in the marathon segment of the race.

Over 400,000 people finish marathons in the U.S. every year.
Membership in USA Triathlon has nearly quadrupled since 1997.
Over 110,000 women have competed in the Danskin triathlon series since it launched in 1990.
Outdoor Life Network (OLN), which televised 7 Ironman races in 2004, has expanded its reach from 1 to 60 million households since 1995. ESPN International televised another 4 races.
2.2 million people tuned into OLN to watch the final stage of the 2003 Tour de France.
"At the very top end of the sport, there's a large pool of very good athletes. The physical differences between those athletes are minimal. The people that win are different due to character. That's the #1 thing I look for."

- Murphy Reinschreiber, Agent, PCH Sports

"All the great champions have to win in Hawaii. All the great champions have lost there. It's like the Tour de France. The Tour is in a league of its own, and so is Ironman Hawaii. The other races don't have the history, don't have the power, don't have the glory."

- John Duke, Publisher, Triathlete magazine

"We human beings love to watch the quest, the fight. We are drawn to the person who gives every ounce of his being to win."

- Ivana Chubbuck, "The Power of the Actor"
